Stepping Stones

How old does my child have to be to make a stone?

  • Any age child can make a stone.  Children YOUNGER than 1 year old generally make prints of just their FEET, as the hands will not open up long enough to get a good hand print.

I have 4 kids- can they fit on one stone?

  • It all depends on the size of their hands (or feet), and the length of their names.  Younger kids with short names will fit, but if any of your kids are older than 8, it's not likely to work.  There is an option of having custom-made tiles with their names glazed into the tile- this frees up room on the stone.  Take a look at the teacher stones in the gift page for ideas.  PLEASE REMEMBER THAT IT TAKES 3 WEEKS TO MAKE CUSTOM TILES.  They also cost an extra $1 per name.

Can I request a special tile?

  • I will gladly try to accomodate special requests.  Custom-made tiles cost between $3 and $5, depending on what you want.  Take a look at the tile choices page to get ideas of our ready-made tiles, then call and see what we can do!

Can I mail the stones?

  • They weigh about 32 pounds, so they would be VERY EXPENSIVE to mail.  They can be carefully packed into a suitcase (with towels, etc.)  and checked through as luggage on an airplane.

Can I bring my own items to decorate the stone?

  • You can, with certain limitations.  Items must be small, and have at least 1 flat side.  If you have special shells, we will try to set them in the cement, but be aware that they might need to be sunk deeply to stay put.  Glass tiles, and or pieces of dishes, etc.  need to be safe to handle - no sharp edges - If you are not sure, please call the studio.
